Background

Council is proposing to undertake improvements to the Cooks River shared path at Lees Park, from Lindsay Street.

Through conversations with our community, we know that the Cooks River shared path is an important recreational and active transport connection for our community. We've heard your suggestions for improvements and are planning to widen the path to reduce conflict between pedestrians and cyclists.

What’s included in this proposal:

  • Widening the path - The shared path from Lindsay Street will be widened from its current 2.5 metres to 4 metres over a length of 184 metres. A 4-metre width allows more room for cyclists and pedestrians to pass each other safely.
  • Removal of two trees - As part of the improvements, two trees will need to be removed for the path widening. Following an assessment, Council has determined that the trees pose a safety risk due to their condition.
  • Replanting of new trees - Six new trees will be planted with careful consideration given to features of the tree species and their impact on our City’s local biodiversity, the existing landscape, ongoing maintenance requirements and existing underground utility services. (Check the proposed locations on the map below.)

This project will be delivered by Council, with the support of the NSW Government, with funding provided through the Get NSW Active grant program.

Let us know what you think of the proposed changes outlined in the proposal below, which will be open for feedback from Monday 5 May-Monday 26 May 2025.
