Background

Did you know that over 25,000 people in the Canterbury-Bankstown community are living with disability?

We are continuously working to improve how accessible and inclusive our City is for every single person in our community. This work is guided by the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026-30, a mandatory plan required by the NSW Government.

Breaking Down Barriers: Support for people with disability goes beyond physical ramps and infrastructure. Our plan is designed to reduce all forms of exclusion, including:

  • Physical barriers (like access issues)
  • Communication barriers
  • Social barriers
  • Negative attitudes and stigmas

This plan

The development and implementation of the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) for 2026-30 represents a critical strategic commitment to fulfilling City of Canterbury Bankstown’s (CBCity’s) vision of becoming a genuinely inclusive and accessible council.

This legislated plan is fully aligned with our overarching Community Strategic Plan and is specifically designed to systematically identify and address the significant needs and systemic barriers experienced by people living with disability across Canterbury-Bankstown.

Your voice matters

We are developing the next CBCity Disability Inclusion Action Plan and are looking for community input. Our goal is to challenge existing barriers so everyone can participate more freely and equally.

If you live, work, study or visit Canterbury-Bankstown, this is your chance to help create a truly accessible, inclusive and welcoming City. Tell us what needs to change!

Join one of our upcoming community consultation sessions or complete our online survey by 5pm, Friday 19 December 2025.
