City of Canterbury Bankstown (Council) is inviting community feedback on the Draft Commercial Use of Footways Local Approvals Policy (the Policy) and Guidelines.

Background

Council is committed to providing residents, businesses and visitors with an inclusive, engaging and vibrant city in a manner that responsibly manages the shared use of public spaces.

This Policy applies to approvals for activities listed in Section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993 and Sections 125 and 139 of the Roads Act 1993 in relation to the management and licensing of the commercial use of footways on Council land. It should be read in conjunction with the Commercial Use of Footways Guidelines (the Guidelines).

Council has reviewed the Policy and Guidelines and no changes have been made to it.

This public exhibition was endorsed at the Council meeting on Tuesday, 16 September 2025 (see Item 7.3, page 3).

About this Policy

The Policy outlines management principles for commercial use of Council-owned footways. The aim is to balance public and commercial use by providing clear specifications for design, positioning and layout standards that support a well-integrated street environment.
