We are seeking your feedback on the Draft Local Orders Policy (Policy) and Draft Local Orders Schedule (Schedule). The Policy and Schedule set out the framework for how City of Canterbury Bankstown Council may issue an order under Section 124 of the Local Government Act 1993 (Act). These documents guide Council’s responsibilities in the areas of animal management, public health, safety, amenity and environmental protection.

Background

Under Section 165 of the Act, Council must review its local policies and place them on public exhibition before they can be adopted. Following review, no significant modifications were made to the Policy or Schedule, but public exhibition ensures transparency and allows the community to provide feedback.

This public exhibition was endorsed at the Council meeting on Tuesday 16 September 2025 (see Item 7.3, page 3).

The Policy and Schedule aim to:

  • ensure Council issues orders in a consistent and fair manner by establishing a clear set of formal criteria
  • ensure Council’s criteria and requirements for orders are readily accessible and understandable to the public
  • meet community standards regarding health and safety of land and premises
  • create a system that is better able to resolve disputes and conflicts more effectively as they arise

The Draft Policy and Schedule apply to all land in the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Area (LGA).
