Consultation has concluded

Background

Council acknowledges the contribution markets make socially, economically and culturally to our City and local community. Well-managed markets activate and create a vibrancy that enhances public domain and the economic potential of an area while encouraging local production, distribution and consumption of goods.

Council has reviewed the Policy and no changes have been made to it.

This public exhibition was endorsed at the Council meeting on Tuesday, 16 September 2025 (see Item 7.3, page 3).

About this Policy

The Draft Markets Local Approvals Policy provides a framework to guide the approval and operation of markets on Council-owned land. It seeks to facilitate well-managed markets that support and contribute to local communities.

The Policy guides local market activity, ensuring compliance with Council requirements, relevant legislation, regulations and best practice in all aspects of health and safety, while continuing to develop Canterbury-Bankstown’s reputation as a destination city.
