Update on the East Hills station precinct improvements

20 March 2026

Thank you for providing feedback on East Hills Station Precinct Improvements project.

The below provides an overview of our engagement and what we heard.

What we did

  • Online Have Your Say website and survey
  • A mailout to local properties
  • Social media

What we heard

A summary of feedback received is provided below, with the following themes emerging:

Wall murals

The community was invited to share their ideas and vote for their preferred mural themes for the car park. Options included native fauna and local flora, as well as celebrating local legends such as Col Joy, Steve Waugh, and Ian Thorpe.

Of the 26 survey responses received on wall murals, Col Joy was the most popular choice with 15 votes, followed by an Australian flora and fauna theme with five votes.

Car park lighting

Respondents strongly supported improved lighting in the car park, with many people highlighting its importance for safety. Some respondents also suggested alternative lighting options such as village-style lighting.

Safety improvements

Respondents raised concerns about vehicle speeds along MacLaurin Avenue and highlighted the importance of improving safety at the Henry Lawson Drive intersection. These concerns will help inform future design and traffic safety improvements.

Shading and comfort

Shading was an important theme in the feedback. Respondents supported increasing natural shade through the planting of more street trees, particularly between parking spaces, to improve comfort and usability of the area.

Car parking availability

1-2 Parking spaces removed in Maclauring Avenue to accommodate tree planting and natural shade. Trees have been positioned to maintain as many spots as possible.

Accessibility

Accessibility was also highlighted as an important consideration. Community members noted that trees should be carefully positioned and maintained to avoid obstructing access to parked vehicles, particularly for people with mobility challenges who may require clear space to enter and exit their cars safely.

Next steps

Council will now prepare a final concept design for the East Hills ReVITALISE Project, carefully considering and incorporating the valuable feedback received from the community and key stakeholders. This process involves reviewing consultation outcomes, refining design elements, and ensuring the proposed solutions align with community priorities, project objectives, technical requirements, and budget parameters.
