CBCity is an incredibly diverse place, with a broad range of cultures, languages, abilities, and Aboriginal heritage represented here.

In our City there are around 200 languages spoken. 44 per cent of our population was born in another country, and 60 per cent speak a language other than English at home. With an estimated population of around 374,000 people, our City is made up of many different communities.

It takes effort and expertise to meaningfully reach out and engage such a range of communities. Tailoring our outreach and engagement methods to suit the needs of each community means we can more effectively involve people in decisions that affect their lives.

The ‘Our Diverse City’ toolkit was created by the Community Engagement team with support from a range of other areas of Council, with a goal of enhancing outreach and engagement with our community. It is a living and regularly updated guideline for Council, responding to the everchanging cultural and demographic landscape of our City.

While this toolkit just scratches the surface of the diverse range of identities in CBCity, with the information, tools and further reading provided in the toolkit, we can be better equipped to involve more of our community in meaningful ways.

Language Services

If you speak a language other than English and need help understanding a Council matter, letter, report, or other correspondence, you can contact Telephone Interpreting Service (TIS National) www.tisnational.gov.au.

The Telephone Interpreting Service (TIS National) will coordinate a three-way telephone conversation, where Council Customer Service Officers will be able to provide assistance through the interpreter.

You can also visit Council's Customer Service Centre. If you have very limited English, it would be helpful to bring a friend or family member along to act as an interpreter.

Council also has some staff that can speak languages other than English. They may be able to act as an interpreter and assist you with matters related to Council.

إذا كنت تتكلم لغة غير الإنكليزية وتحتاج إلى مساعدة في فهم مسألة خاصة بالبلدية أو رسالة أو تقرير أو أية مراسلات أخرى منها، فبإمكانك الاتصال بخدمة الترجمة الهاتفية (TIS National).

بإمكانك أيضاً أن تزور مركز خدمة الزبائن التابع للبلدية. وإذا كنت لا تجيد الإنكليزية، يُستحسن أن تُحْضر معك إلى المركز صديق أو فرد من أفراد العائلة ليساعدك في الترجمة.

كذلك فإنه يوجد في البلدية بعض الموظفين الذين يتكلمون لغات غير الإنكليزية، وباستطاعتهم مساعدتك في الترجمة وفي المسائل المتعلقة بالبلدية.

Η Τηλεφωνική Υπηρεσία Διερμηνέων (TIS National) θα συντονίσει μια τριμερή τηλεφωνική συνδιάλεξη, όπου Υπάλληλοι της Εξυπηρέτησης Πελατών του Δήμου θα μπορούν να προσφέρουν βοήθεια
μέσω διερμηνέα.

Μπορείτε επίσης να επισκεφτείτε το Κέντρο Εξυπηρέτησης Πελατών του Δήμου. Αν τα αγγλικά σας είναι πολύ περιορισμένα, θα ήταν χρήσιμο να σας συνοδεύσει ένας φίλος ή συγγενικό σας
πρόσωπο για να βοηθήσει ως διερμηνέας.

Dịch vụ Thông dịch qua Điện thoại (TIS Toàn quốc) sẽ điều hợp việc đàm thoại ba-chiều qua điện thoại, để Nhân viên Phục vụ Thân chủ của Hội đồng Thành phố sẽ có thể trợ giúp quý vị thông qua một thông dịch viên.
