Canterbury Bankstown Council has prepared a draft Local Orders Policy to provide Council’s Officers with guidelines for determining whether individuals have breeched a set standard of city guidelines. The guidelines, while set by Canterbury Bankstown Council, relate to 30 circumstances outlined within Section 124 of the Local Government Act 1993. Section 124 is used to enforce Council legislation dealing with most public health, public convenience and safety issues including the keeping of birds and animals.

The policy aims to:
  • Ensure the manner in which Council deals with the issuing of orders is consistent and fair, by issuing a clear set of formal guidelines
  • Make the Council’s criteria and requirements for order readily accessible and understandable to the public
  • Meet community standards regarding health and safety of land and premises
  • To create a system that is better able to effectively resolve disputes and conflicts as they arise.
The Draft Canterbury Bankstown City Council Local Orders Policy 2017 has been prepared in line with Section 159 Local Government Act 1993.

The policy can be viewed in the document library on the right hand side of this page. And can also be viewed in person at the Campsie and Bankstown Customer Service Centers.
