Background

Memorial Oval in Bankstown has a long history as the premier cricket ground in the region and is widely regarded as one of the best quality grounds in Sydney.

To maintain and enhance the quality of this ground, Bankstown District Cricket Club received a grant for the installation of sports field lighting under the Greater Cities Sports Facility Fund.

This project will see the installation of 1,000 lux sports field lighting, offering our community:

  • Extended use of the oval
  • Opportunities for cricket to be played in the evening
  • Support for elite level cricket, including opportunities for T20 cricket matches to be held in Bankstown

In collaboration with Bankstown District Cricket Club, we are working to drive initiatives that bring lasting benefits to the people of Canterbury Bankstown. Provision of sports field lighting will facilitate recreational activity in the community, however we need to ensure there is minimal impact on nearby residences.

We want you to be part of the conversation. Please let us know what you think or submit any questions on the proposed project. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025.
