Consultation has concluded

Council is considering applications from eligible car share operators for dedicated car share parking spaces to be located on-street or within Council-owned car parks.

Car share services allow people access to a car for a short period and pay only for the duration used and/or distance travelled. It is a convenient and cost-effective way to reduce the total number of private vehicles on the street, free up street space and support healthier, low-emission transport options.

View the proposed dedicated car share spaces on the map below and share your feedback in a quick survey by 5pm, Friday 10 October 2025.

At the 3 December 2024 Council Meeting, Canterbury-Bankstown Council adopted a Car Share Policy. The Policy outlines Council’s approach to the allocation, installation and management of dedicated parking spaces for car share operators, on land under the care and control of Council, including on-street and off-street parking.

The Canterbury-Bankstown Car Share policy applies to dedicated car share spaces within Council-owned or managed car parking spaces.

The Policy objectives are to:

  • Encourage sustainable modes of transport;
  • Alleviate demand for car parking;
  • Reduce private vehicle ownership;
  • Reduce vehicle traffic and emissions;
  • Increase uptake of public and active transport; and
  • Increase social inclusion by providing access to a range of vehicles to all households.

The Car Share Policy and provision of dedicated car share spaces supports the aspirations of the Community Strategic Plan and contributes to the Moving and Integrated destination. Connective City 2036, Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement, has established transport mode shift targets for Canterbury-Bankstown to decrease the use of private vehicles and increase the percentage of residents utilising public transport and active transport.
