Consultation has concluded
Council is upgrading the East Hills Station precinct to create a more vibrant, safer and welcoming place for everyone. This project is supported by the reVITALise – Public Transport Precinct Vibrancy Grant, funded by Transport for NSW.
Council will deliver targeted improvements that enhance vibrancy, safety and connectivity. Concept designs have been shaped through extensive community engagement, including a walkshop, a co-design workshop and an online survey.
Key upgrades will include:
- Street trees: new plantings along Maclaurin Avenue, Park Road and west of the station.
- Landscaping: a new green space with native trees south of the car park.
- Lighting: safer, more inviting areas with new car park lighting, solar bollards, fairy lights, tree uplights and feature lighting under the railway bridge.
- Wall murals: artwork to create a focal point for the community and to feature native fauna, such as wallabies and local flora.
- Street furniture: a bench outside the East Hills Business Centre and two tables under the trees on the car park's southern edge, facing Maclaurin Avenue.
- Making Thompson Lane safer: Interventions include installing Give Way to Pedestrian signs, traffic calming devices, new line marking with pedestrian and cyclist symbols and paver bands along the lane to add visual interest and further improve safety for pedestrians and motorists.
As part of this upgrade, we are proposing changes to parking to improve safety and meet modern design standards.
Thompson Lane car park
The car park will receive upgrades including new lighting, landscaping and line-marking. The parking bays will also be widened.
- The change: two parking spaces will be removed.
- The reason: the current parking bays are too narrow. Widening them is necessary to meet safety standards. This will make the car park safer, easier to use and more accessible. It also will reduce the risk of minor accidents and door damage.
Maclaurin Avenue parking
Parking capacity on Maclaurin Avenue has changed to make space for new trees.
- The change: one parking space will be removed.
- The reason: the new design includes planting street trees for shade and to improve the look of the centre. The trees have been carefully positioned to keep as many parking spaces as possible.
The project supports CBCity’s Community Strategic Plan 2036, which seeks attractive, sustainable and well-designed town centres that are safe, vibrant and welcoming.
The plan below outlines some of the proposed upgrades around the car park. We invite our community to share feedback using the form below by 5pm, Friday 30 January 2026.
To view the detailed plan of all the upgrades, please see the document library below.
Council is excited to share that upgrades are coming to the East Hills Station precinct, thanks to funding from Transport for NSW through the reVITALise — Public Transport Precinct Vibrancy Grant. This project will make the station area more vibrant, welcoming and safer for everyone who lives, works and travels through East Hills.
In April 2025, we connected with the community through a series of activities, including a walkshop around the town centre, a co-design workshop and an online survey on Council’s Have Your Say page. We worked with JOC Consulting to guide these sessions and gather as much community feedback as possible.
17 community members joined the walkshop to share ideas on-site, followed by 15 community members at the co-design workshop a week later, where we explored possibilities in more detail. Online, 645 people visited the project page, with 62 sharing contributions.
Your input has directly shaped the draft designs now on display. Together, we’re creating a safer, greener and more vibrant East Hills Station precinct!
Provided images and artworks are all for reference only. For artworks, an artist will be appointed to work closely with the community to develop the final designs.
