Pop up workshop at Roselands Aquatic Centre

30 June 2021

As part of the community engagement process for Footpath Fun, Council and the commissioned artists engaged with the community at Roselands Aquatic and Leisure Centre from 8:30am – 10:30am. Approximately 60 individuals were engaged, coming from varying cultural backgrounds and a wide age range.

The engagement activity invited participants to get creative and use their imagination to explore what growth means to them. It aimed to capture the community, and their unique and varied experiences. We provided the community with prompt cards, pens, butchers paper and post it notes to answer our questions.

We asked the community about what growth means to them using prompts such as food, culture, plants and home as a starting point. This evoked a series of meaningful conversations with pool goers as they took us on a journey to uncover what growth means to them. These conversations were often nostalgic and bittersweet, with participants recalling smells, sights and feels of their childhoods.

The children took it a step further. While their parents and carers reminisced on home and growth, they took to pen and paper provided to let us know how they see growth, linking it to food, culture, plants and home.
