Consultation has concluded

Background

As a part of the development approval for the construction of the Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre, Council is proposing to construct a shared path along Phillips Avenue, Canterbury from Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre to Wairoa Street, Canterbury to assist with the rerouting that is required for the existing path.

Construction for the Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre is anticipated to commence in 2023.

This proposal

Council will be widening the existing footpath to 2.5m wide which will provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists travelling along the path.

As a result of the works there will be one (1) additional parking spot gained along Phillips Avenue and two (2) parking spots are planned to be removed along Wairoa Street.

This project is in line with Council’s vision of a ‘moving and integrated’ City, whereby we are improving the movement around our City for all users whilst also being a ‘safe and strong’ City.
