What we heard

During the consultation period of 16 October to 27 November 2024, we received a total of 76 submissions, 71 via Have Your Say and 5 via email. Key themes included:

• Tasker Park is a highly valued area of open space and there is significant community support for upgrades to improve usage and activation

• Requests for diversity in play equipment for a range of ages

• Consideration of the local environment, including additional tree plantings and landscaping

• Provision of supporting infrastructure such as lighting, seating, shade and water refill stations

• Upgraded hard stand areas, specifically for basketball

• Improvements to access and existing active transport routes to enhance their useability and connection

• A range of project suggestions outside the scope and boundaries of the Tasker Park Precinct such as rugby fields and squash courts

How your feedback has been incorporated

Council has incorporated much of the feedback received last year into concept designs for the upcoming Tasker Park Precinct upgrades. This includes proposing:

• A range of play equipment for all ages, as well as fencing around the play space

• The inclusion of exercise equipment

• A full-size basketball court. Council’s initial engagement referenced a half basketball court. Based on community feedback, we are now proposing a full-size basketball court.

• A design to incorporate site-suitable lighting in the precinct

• Seating in various locations

• Additional trees/shrubs/appropriate plantings incorporated into the project

• The path along Phillips Avenue and through Tasker Park to be separate for cyclists and pedestrians

• A design with improved safety and access on and off the new bridge

• The existing bridge stay open during construction

• Widening of the Broughton Street railway underpass shared path, to provide safer passage for all users

Next Steps

Council will be providing another opportunity for community feedback on more detailed designs for the upgrades at Tasker Park Precinct in late August/early September 2025.
