Consultation has concluded

Background

To coincide with the construction of the new Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre, planning is currently underway for some exciting upgrades in the Tasker Park precinct.

Planned facilities will include a new play space, new recreation area (including basketball half court) and improvements to connectivity with a new shared path and new bridge over the Cooks River.

To help our community during the construction of the new Leisure & Aquatic Centre, Council will be constructing a temporary basketball half court within Tasker Park.

We are excited to share the planning work done to date and are currently seeking community feedback to assist us with our planning for the site, with further engagement opportunities in 2025.

This proposal

As part of the newly activated Tasker Park precinct, Council is planning first class recreational facilities including:

  • New destination play space in a new location;
  • New recreation area to include a basketball half court;
  • New shared path along Phillips Avenue, Canterbury; and
  • New shared path and bridge over the Cooks River (Charles Street bridge).

Taking advantage of the site’s location near the Canterbury Town Centre, the project will deliver a range of benefits including:

  • High quality recreation facilities;
  • Improved connectivity and accessibility to the Canterbury Town Centre and existing cycleways along the Cooks River; and
  • Additional parking facilities.

More information on the progress of the new Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre can be found on Council’s website.
