Overview
The City of Canterbury Bankstown is currently putting together a 20-year visionary masterplan, to transform Belmore Sports and Recreation Precinct.
The project precinct is 16.9 hectares in size and includes:
- Belmore Sportsground;
- Peter Moore Fields;
- Terry Lamb Reserve;
- Belmore Bowling Club;
- Lillian Lane;
- Tobruk Avenue car park; and
- The Belmore Station entry.
The masterplan will also inform:
- Future grant submissions;
- Discussions with the NSW Government, as part of future Sydenham to Bankstown precinct planning; and
- Future Council plan reviews.
The recreational open spaces in the precinct present an opportunity for significant improvement to meet the future needs of the growing population in Belmore.
The masterplan
Council consulted with the community, from May to August, and have included feedback in the development of the draft masterplan.
Our community told us to:
- Open up the park;
- Provide greater space for passive and active spaces;
- Establish green connections by incorporating walking and cycling paths; and
- Install a destination playground with dynamic community space.
Council plans to provide something for everyone by creating a new community green space. We want to transform the precinct into the community heart of Belmore, while maintaining its iconic roots as the home of rugby league and football.
Importantly, the design and future uses of the precinct will reflect the diversity of the Belmore community.
