Thank you for having your say on the Belmore Town Centre Upgrades

15 July 2025

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the Belmore Town Centre Upgrades project. Council appreciates the thoughtful and constructive feedback provided by the community, which will now help inform a concept design for upgrades in the town centre.

The following summary below provides details about the consultation and the feedback we received from the community.

What we did

The consultation took place in four weeks throughout April and included:

  • Online Have Your Say website and survey
  • Walkshop with local community members
  • Community Pop-up in Belmore Town Centre
  • Flyer mailed to 750 residents and businesses
  • Social media

What we heard

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and it was great to get a better understanding of community priorities for the centre.

A summary of feedback received is provided below, with the following themes emerging:

  • Very strong support across the board for more greenspace, landscaping and trees. Responses indicated support for more green space and street beautification with landscaping, as well as trees to increase shade and liveability, particularly along key pedestrian routes. Some respondents asked for improvements and maintenance of local reserves and for more active recreation areas.
  • Strong support for improved lighting for safety and visibility particularly in darker streets, as well as decoration and ambient lighting like tree lighting.
  • Strong support for various pedestrian improvements such as safer crossings, footpath upgrades, and better accessibility.
  • Calls for more seating and furniture in public areas including more benches, shaded seating areas and tables to improve public spaces.
  • While there was less emphasis on public art, comments indicated support for injections of art and colour that enlivened the area and made it more attractive, as well as content that reflected the areas’ identity.
  • While there was less emphasis on signage and wayfinding, some comments noted more signage could allow people to orient themselves, bring attention to carparking, improve active transport and make the space more welcoming.

Other feedback we received included:

  • More public bin facilities
  • Parking and management of parking spaces
  • More active ongoing maintenance and street cleaning
  • A portion of respondents requested public toilet facilities
  • Connectivity and active transport links, with some suggestions for improved cycling infrastructure and more parking to connect to the metro.

Next steps

We’re now working on the development of a concept design for upgrades in Belmore Town Centre. Once complete, we’ll share the concept design for further community comment.
