Thank you!

19 February 2020

Recently you told us what a clean, tidy and well-maintained city means to you. You are receiving this because you participated in a pop up, did a survey or came to a focus group.

The input was very valuable, and we learnt a great deal.

Who did we hear from?

Who did we hear from statistics

What we heard

  • A clean, tidy and well-maintained area is important to everyone – the community wants to be proud of Canterbury Bankstown.
  • Illegal dumping, water pollution and litter in parks, gardens and town centres are the biggest issues for the community.
  • Health and safety impacts of air quality, litter and illegal dumping were concerning, especially where they inhibited clear access or caused distraction to assistance animals.
  • People want to see shared responsibility for keeping areas clean, with more education and encouragement and enforcement from Council for businesses and individuals to contribute to a clean city.
  • Clean is also closely tied to green. Tree canopy and shade, well-maintained parks, gardens, lawns and verges are important, attractive and welcoming in Canterbury Bankstown.

What we are going to do with what we heard

  • Council teams responsible for the biggest issues identified are now working together to identify areas of improvement
  • The results from the community and council consultations will be combined to guide how we best address these issues into the future.
  • The formal Clean City Strategic Plan will be presented to Council later in the year.

When you'll hear from us next

  • Look out for the exhibition phase coming up in Spring 2020
