The Policy sets the rules for mobile food vendors operating on Council-owned roads in Canterbury-Bankstown. It provides a clear framework to make sure vendors follow the law, sell safe food and operate responsibly in our community.

The Policy ensures consistency, fairness and safety for mobile food vending. It helps balance community needs, support local businesses and protect public health.

If you want to trade on Council-owned roads, you must apply for a Section 68 Approval from Council.You will need to provide:
- Current vehicle registration
- Public and product liability insurance (minimum $20 million)
- Third-party property damage insurance (minimum $20 million)
Council may also inspect your vehicle to check it meets food safety and construction standards

Yes. All vendors must register as a food business under the NSW Food Act 2003. If you want to operate on private land, you may also need development consent.

Council may inspect your vehicle when you first apply or renew your approval and may also inspect at other times to make sure you meet all requirements.

Vendors must comply with the NSW Food Standards Code and the NSW Food Authority Guidelines for Mobile Food Vending Vehicles. This includes:

- Having a Food Safety Supervisor (if handling unpackaged food)
- Keeping food at safe temperatures
- Using approved storage and preparation practices

No. Mobile food vending vehicles are not permitted to operate within 100 metres of a fixed food premises (such as a cafe, bakery or restaurant) unless approved by Council.

You can trade for a maximum of 15 minutes in one spot, or until you finish serving customers already there. Vehicles must always comply with road rules and parking restrictions.

You must register your vehicle with your home council (where it is garaged). Other councils may ask to see your inspection report or approval before letting you trade.
