We are seeking your feedback on the Draft Mobile Food Vending Vehicles Local Approvals Policy (Policy). The Policy provides the framework for the operation of mobile food vending vehicles on Council-owned roads within Canterbury-Bankstown.

Background

The Policy aims to ensure that mobile food vending vehicles operate according to relevant legislative instruments and best practice in all aspects of food safety.
It provides a consistent approach and guidance for operation in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993 (Act) and the accompanying NSW Food Authority’s Guidelines for Mobile Food Vending Vehicles. Specifically, it applies to an activity listed under Section 68 of the Act, item 7 of Part F: use a standing vehicle or any article for the purpose of selling any article in a public place.

This public exhibition was endorsed at the Council meeting on Tuesday 16 September 2025 (see Item 7.3, page 3).

The Policy does NOT apply to mobile food vending vehicles:

  • Trading in accordance with a development consent or the provisions of the State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008 on private land
  • Trading on public land in accordance with an approved temporary event
  • Not operating as a food business
