In March 2021, we adopted the Off-leash Dog Park Action Plan. This Plan was developed with the assistance of the community, and guides the ongoing management of off-leash areas in the City through a focus on provision, design and operation while balancing the needs of all open space users.

Community feedback associated with the development of the Plan identified a consistent theme around animal safety and the need to separate large and small dogs. This need was listed as a high priority in the adopted Plan.

It is in this context we are proposing to install and monitor separated areas for small and large dogs in our regional off-leash dog parks at Vale of Ah, Milperra and Band Hall Reserve, Birrong.

Council has no delegated authority to enforce access to the large or small dog areas under the Companion Animals Act 1998, and placement of dogs in the respective areas will be at the dog owner’s discretion.
