Consultation has concluded

One rate system because we are one city

Background

At the 24 November 2020 Ordinary meeting, Council authorised the public exhibition of the rates harmonisation and financial sustainability proposal - One Rate system – because we are One City.

This proposal

Rates across the City have been reviewed and are proposed to change from July 2021.

The One Rate proposal is now on public exhibition and Council is seeking comments and feedback from the community.

The key objectives of the proposal are to facilitate:

  • Rate harmonisation, this being a requirement of the NSW Government which will ensure homeowners and business property owners pay consistent rates across the City based on land value; and
  • An increase to the income stream of $40 million per year to ensure that we provide the services the community want and deserve. This will include an increase to the minimum rate for residential and business properties to $990 over 3 years (subject to legislative changes) and a Special Rate Variation (SRV).
