Updates on the planning for Belmore Local Centre

6 January 2025

At its meeting on 26 November 2024, Council resolved to delegate the consideration and determination of Council’s submission to the Transport Oriented Development (TOD) Program and Alternative Scheme for Belmore and Lakemba to the CEO. You can find more information here.

Council will submit the Alternative Approach to TOD, the Recommended Planning Provisions Reports and supporting studies to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI). You can access the updated reports and supporting studies below.

On 23 December 2024 the Minister for Planning and Public Spaces announced that DPHI is now assessing Council’s plans, and the NSW Government will then make amendments to Council’s Local Environmental Plan. You can read the full statement here.

We’ll provide further updates on the project once we’ve received further advice from the NSW Government on our alternative approach. We’ll also share more information on what we heard in Belmore/Lakemba, to show how your feedback has shaped the project.

Council will now prepare and exhibit draft amendments to its Development Control Plan and Local Infrastructure Contributions Plan for Belmore and Lakemba. This will provide more detailed guidelines for new development and help deliver local infrastructure outcomes in Belmore and Lakemba. Once these amendments have been prepared the community will have a further chance to provide feedback on these amendments and have their say.
