Consultation has concluded

Background

At the Ordinary Meeting April 30, 2024, Council proposed to name the Roberts Park Community Hub to the former Mayor, Kevin Hil Roberts Park Community Hub.

Kevin Hill OAM, holds the honour of being Bankstown’s longest continuous serving Councillor.

Mr Hill, was first elected to Bankstown Council in 1977 and served as Mayor, as well as sitting on numerous local government authorities. In 1988, he was instrumental in establishing the Australian Sister Cities Association in 1988, now Sister Cities Australia, and in establishing the Bankstown Sister City Committee, of which he served as chairman from 1987-2008. He has been a board member of Sister Cities International since 2007.Mr Hill was also instrumental in securing Bankstown as the base for the United States Olympic team for the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics.

After the fire that destroyed Bankstown Council's Administration Building in 1997, Mr Hill played a significant role in the responses and recovery efforts, including rallying resources to ensure the continuity of essential services. Mr Hill provided leadership to guide the community, Council, and staff through this challenging time.

Mr Hill's extensive involvement in local government authorities allowed him to contribute significantly to the development and decision-making processes of the community. His experience and expertise in various roles as Mayor and Councillor provided him with valuable insights and the opportunity to advocate for the needs and concerns of the residents he served. This level of commitment and dedication undoubtedly had a positive impact on the overall governance and progress of the region.

Mr Hill was a local businessman and a resident of Greenacre for over 50 years. He had a strong connection to the Ro Lockwood Village in Greenacre, which was converted into the Bankstown City Aged Care facility and is not a private school.

Now retired from politics, Mr Hill is still involved with Bankstown City Aged Care, where he is chairman and director, conitnues to serve on the board of Sister Cities International and is a life member of the Chullora Wolves Soccer Club, which he joined in 1972.
