Background

Following representation from Councillor Harika and a site meeting held with local residents in March 2021, Council has been investigating options to treat the anti-social driving behaviour at the intersection of Brennan Road and Ward Street Yagoona. We have also been working hard to obtain funding for the project which will now come from the WestInvest Program. This program aims to improve the liveability of communities and support economic recovery, making a real difference to the quality of living.

This proposal

The proposal involves the installation of a raised platform at the intersection of Brennan Road and Ward Street, Yagoona with associated signs in line with Australian Standards and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) Technical Guidelines. As a result of the proposal, there will be a loss of seven (7) parking spots as displayed in the below construction drawing. Please note a roundabout was also investigated but determined not to be viable as it resulted in a loss in excess of 20 on-street parking spaces. The narrow intersection also requires significant construction work to widen it, which could not be done within the funds available.

This project is in line with Council’s vision of a ‘moving and integrated’ City, whereby we are improving the movement around our City for all users whilst also being a ‘safe and strong’ City.
