Background

Burwood Road is a regional road in Belmore that receives relatively high levels of vehicular traffic. The existing pedestrian crossing does not facilitate safe access across Burwood Road.

This proposal

As part of Council’s 2023/24 Capital Works Program we are proposing to construct a raised pedestrian crossing in replacement of the existing crossing. This will give priority to pedestrians travelling throughout the area and also will control speeding.

Council has applied for funding under Transport for NSW’s Active Transport program and is currently completing consultation to understand the community’s feedback to the proposal. The implementation of the crossing is subject to grant funding from Transport for NSW.

This project is in line with Council’s vision of a ‘moving and integrated’ City, whereby we are improving the movement around our City for all users whilst also being a ‘safe and strong’ City.
