Background

Priam Street between Waldron Road and Leicester Street is located within the Chester Hill Town Centre. It attracts high pedestrian movement due to the surrounding shopping and business precinct and carparks.

This proposal

As part of Council’s 2023/24 Capital Works Program, we are proposing to replace the existing pedestrian refuge island with a raised pedestrian crossing which will give priority to pedestrians travelling throughout the area. The scope of works for this project will also include the construction of a concrete median island and new garden beds on either side of the pedestrian crossing. As a result of the works there will be a loss of one (1) parking spot.

Council has applied for funding under Transport for NSW’s Active Transport program and is currently completing consultation to understand the community’s feedback to the proposal. The implementation of the crossing will be subject to community feedback and funding availability.

This project is in line with Council’s vision of a ‘moving and integrated’ City, whereby we are improving the movement around our City for all users whilst also being a ‘safe and strong’ City.
