Consultation has concluded

Background

Council continues to work on improving safety for pedestrians and drivers across our wide local government area. However, with demands on all our services continuing to grow and limited funding available, prioritisation is provided to locations where speed data and official TfNSW injury/crash information can support expenditure of these funds. Council also works collaboratively with Federal and State Government departments to obtain possible grant funding through various road safety programs.

A grant submission for the 2024/2025 Federal Black Spot program is currently being considered by Council for Eldridge Road, Bankstown.

This proposal

Recorded accident history in the last five years indicates two pedestrian injury crashes on Eldridge Road, west of Herbert Street. To provide a safer crossing point in this section of Eldridge Road to assist bus commuters and others, Council is proposing a pedestrian refuge island on Eldridge Road, outside No 14-20 (Bankstown Terrace). As part of this proposal, it is necessary to relocate the existing bus stop on the southern side, further west.

It is a mandatory requirement to install 20metres of No Stopping restrictions at pedestrian refuge islands to maintain adequate sightlines for both motorists and pedestrians. This will result in a loss of 4 parking spaces on Eldridge Road.
