Consultation has concluded

Background

Yangoora and Benaroon Roads, Belmore carry a considerable traffic volume through the intersection. The intersection is currently operated as 4-way STOP controls. This arrangement relies on motorists' sightlines and understanding of the functioning of such controls. This has raised concerns for motorists.

To improve traffic circulation at the cross intersection, a roundabout is proposed. Due to the narrow carriageway of Benaroon Road North, all vehicles longer than 6m (average sedan) need to be restricted.

Safer crossing points have also been provided to facilitate pedestrians.

This proposal

Each year Council seeks to improve the safety on our roads by seeking funding from Federal and State Government programs. The projects target those road locations where community have raised safety concerns or areas with a high crash risk.

There has been community concern raised regarding current controls at the Yangoora Rd-Benaroon Rd intersection.

Council has identified that this location would benefit from a roundabout being installed to create a safer environment for traffic and pedestrian movements. Council has requested funding from the State Government to improve safety at the intersection. The proposal results in a loss of three (3) parking spaces.

This project is in line with Council’s vision of a ‘moving and integrated’ City, whereby we are improving the movement around our City for all users whilst also being a ‘safe and strong’ City.
