Background

Our local sports facilities and network of open spaces provide a range of opportunities to support our community in participating in physical activity.

Our Community Strategic Plan, CBCity 2028, highlights the community’s aspiration to be a City that is Healthy and Active, a motivated City that nurtures healthy minds and healthy bodies. We recognise the important role sport plays in creating a vibrant and healthy community and the benefit it provides. Understanding how our community gets active and moving impacts the way we manage and deliver our sports and recreation facilities.

Our sporting clubs, community volunteers, not-for-profit organisations, and schools and are vital to the thriving sporting culture in our area and to the health and well-being of our community.

This proposal

Our Plan is the first strategic plan for Canterbury-Bankstown focused on the management of our extensive range of sporting facilities. It provides a framework for the provision, maintenance and upgrade of our grassroots sports facilities.

It establishes a hierarchy of facilities and assesses the capacity of existing sports facilities in meeting current and projected needs. It is informed by the current and future needs of our community, other adopted strategies, as well as our financial capacity and sustainability.

Our Plan provides opportunities for us to work with all levels of Government, sporting associations, and local clubs to deliver new facilities and redevelop existing sporting infrastructure.
