Background

Council, the Greater Sydney Commission and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment are creating a long term vision for the future of Canterbury Racecourse.

As part of the early planning phase of the project, Council is seeking expressions of interest from people to take part in a Community Voice Panel to share their ideas and inform the process. This will involve being a part of two workshops in February and March and potentially follow up activities to collect further input.

This is a collaborative project between Council, the Greater Sydney Commission and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, and includes the involvement of the community, other agencies and the Australian Turf Club. The project stems from Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement, which seeks to investigate the appropriate balance of uses on the site, including open space, should the Australian Turf Club cease operations on the site.

This proposal

  • Asks for interested members of the community to submit an Expression of Interest to take part in the Community Voice Panel for the early investigation phase of the project;
  • Requires interested parties to complete the application form and submit it by 5pm 8 February 2021; and
  • Requires all applicants to be available to attend consultation workshops on the evenings of 17 February 2021 and 16 March 2021 (with successful applicants being notified on 12 February 2021).

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Familiarity with the racecourse precinct and the surrounding area;
  • Representation which represents a wide range of member perspectives from within the local community;
  • Proximity of home or workplace to Canterbury Racecourse;
  • Ability to express views clearly and respectfully (language/interpreter support is available); and
  • A demographic mix which reflects the community of suburbs surrounding the Racecourse.
