A diverse and cohesive community is also a strong and sustainable community. Our community is made up of people from many different parts of the globe, speaking more than 200 languages, adhering to many different religious views, and maintaining various cultural practices.

About the plan

The Cultural Diversity Plan will provide a framework for our Council to support our diverse community in a changing environment. Strategies and actions flowing from this plan guide staff in their work with all our residents to provide the best possible service. This plan will be just one of many aiming to support and enhance Canterbury-Bankstown’s social and cultural representation.

Community feedback to date

In consultations with local multicultural and community services in 2019 and early 2020, we’ve heard a vision for our city where:

  • Residents, visitors and workers should feel welcome
  • We can express our essential selves through our traditions, arts, cultures and lifestyles
  • Services are accessible by all
  • Scarce resources are conserved and fairly shared
  • Local economic prosperity provides opportunity for all to share.
