We want to better understand the relationship between people and waterways in the western part of the City of Canterbury Bankstown.

All of the waterways, creeks, wetlands and ponds within the western part of the City of Canterbury Bankstown, which drain towards either the Georges River or Duck River.

Your responses will help us plan for future catchment and waterway management, works and services.

As part of developing the City’s Community Strategic Plan, we have heard that our community values waterways within the area, and wants to see improved waterway health. One of the destinations identified in the Community Strategic Plan is “a clean and sustainable City with healthy waterways and natural areas”.

Community engagement was completed for the Salt Pan Creek Corridor Spatial Framework/Masterplan in April 2021. Respondents told us they would like to see a mixture of natural ecosystem improvements (e.g. biodiversity, water quality) as well as improved facilities for walking, cycling and aquatic recreation. This is helping us plan for the Salt Pan Creek Corridor. Similar information will help us plan for other waterways in our local government area.

For the eastern part of the City of Canterbury Bankstown that drains towards the Cooks River, a similar waterways survey was conducted online between August and September 2021. Respondents told us cleaner water, waterway naturalisation and the clean-up of litter and debris are their strongest priorities for the future of the River.

We are seeking comments online, through partners and community organisations, and in person at various waterway locations where appropriate in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions.
