We are planning upgrades in the Lakemba Town Centre to improve public spaces on Haldon Street and surrounding streets, which aim to enhance the existing character of Lakemba.

Some options we are considering are new:

  • Furniture and seating
  • Public artwork
  • Lighting
  • Pedestrian improvements
  • Signage and wayfinding
  • Landscaping and greenspace

We are excited to hear your feedback and learn your priorities and preferences. Your input will help us develop a concept design for the upgrades, which we will ask for feedback on later this year.

At the April 2022 Council Meeting, Council resolved to submit an application under the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program (formerly known as the WestInvest Program) for the delivery of this project. This funding was subsequently secured for public domain upgrades in Lakemba Town Centre. The Australian Government has provided a further allocation of funding through the Investing in Our Communities Program to support public domain upgrades on Haldon Street, Lakemba.

Over the last several years, Council have undertaken several engagement pieces on Lakemba, including the Lakemba Master Plan and Safer Cities: Herway project. In addition to our master planning work, we’ve listened and undertaken further exploratory work on ideas for public domain upgrades in the Lakemba Town Centre.

The funding for this project allows Council to implement some of the infrastructure requirements for Lakemba. We have compiled ideas from previous community input sessions and have presented these as options for the community to consider, including the type of upgrades and possible locations in the Town Centre.
