Thanks for having your say!

8 August 2024

Thank you for having your say on the Late night trading in Canterbury-Bankstown exhibition.

You’ve provided us with feedback on your thoughts including but not limited to locations identified as areas to develop, factors that make a good late-night trading area and barriers to late night trading.

As an update, we want to share the key findings and result of your contributions.

Key findings

  1. 58 social map contributions were made by 57 contributors. Twenty-seven contributions identified areas to develop, 30 identified areas they visit, and one identified as a current business.
  2. The top three suburbs mentioned in the social map tool were:
    • Hurlstone Park (nine)
    • Sefton (nine)
    • Canterbury (six)
  3. 394 businesses surveys were done in six suburbs – 16 would like to open longer hours if allowed and 378 would not be interested.
  4. Some further statistics of the businesses identified in the business surveys are:
    • Of the 16 businesses that responded yes to opening later, 12 businesses already operate past 7pm.
    • Of the 378 businesses that responded no to opening later, 156 businesses already operate past 7pm.

These findings were brought to Council at the ordinary Council Meeting held on 23 July. From the findings, Council made the following recommendation.

Recommendation

Council note the findings from the community consultation and incorporate this information when implementing future actions identified in the Night Time Economy Action Plan 2021-26 (e.g., locations identified as areas to develop, factors identified as making a good late-night trading, barriers to late night trading).
