Updates on the Werona Avenue Reserve Playground

15 October 2025

Thanks for having your say!

We appreciate everyone who took the time to review the Werona Avenue Reserve Playground upgrade concept plan and share their feedback.

We engaged with you on this upgrade concept plan via our Have Your Say website and distributed letters to 1539 landowners and residents in Punchbowl to invite feedback.

What we heard

During the exhibition period, we received four submissions, with key themes including:

  • Preference for maintaining the park's natural look, including no artificial grass
  • Concerns about overgrown trees
  • Suggestions to include fitness equipment or a walking path to cater to adults
  • Requests to avoid planting additional trees to preserve views from nearby units

During the exhibition period, we received three written submissions, with key themes including:

  • More trees
  • More play equipment for younger children
  • Requests for fitness equipment to cater to all ages

Our response

In response to concerns raised about artificial grass, based on community feedback. Council has agreed to revise the plan. Instead of installing synthetic turf, soft fall mulch will be used in the play area to maintain a more natural look.

Regarding the issue of overgrown trees, Council will carry out minor pruning and dead wooding to manage growth and ensure safety, while preserving the overall greenery of the park.

The playground equipment and configuration are in line with our Playgrounds and Playspaces Strategic Plan. Unfortunately, the short-stay neighbourhood park and fitness equipment does not align with Playgrounds and Playspaces Strategic Plan.

What’s Happening Now
