Background

We’re building a new destination play space in Wiley Park! This play space was identified as a high-priority project in Council’s Playgrounds and Play Spaces Strategic Plan.

In 2022, we originally engaged on a draft plan for this play space. Since then, we have carefully reviewed the feedback you shared and included some of your suggestions. We also faced challenges when looking to carry out that plan, such as rising construction and operational costs, complex logistical requirements and concerns about removing existing trees.

Proposal

To overcome these challenges and best meet the needs of our community, the draft plan has been updated and refined.

The new concept design focuses on inclusive, fun and nature-connected play opportunities for all ages. The proposed play space includes:

  • New amenities such as barbeques, picnic shelters, bubblers, picnic tables and seating
  • A sloped play area with climbing equipment and slides
  • A nine-meter-tall play tower
  • A variety of swings
  • Shade sails to improve comfort year-round
  • Accessible play equipment for all abilities
  • Play activities that involve nature and creative thinking

You can have your say on this proposal from Wednesday 20 May 2026 -Wednesday 10 June 2026.

Area for community's vote

We have prepared a new concept design for your information. For one section of the playground, we’re inviting the community to help decide between two exciting options:

  • An innovative digital play experience; or
  • A more traditional play tower structure.

Your feedback will help shape the final design and ensure the playground reflects local preferences and the types of play opportunities the community would like to see. Learn more about these options below.

🔵Innovative digital play experience

The Memo play unit brings the playground to life with an innovative, multi-purpose play experience designed for today’s digitally savvy generation. As a one-of-a-kind installation in New South Wales, it blends technology with play through a range of interactive educational games that challenge children while keeping learning fun and engaging.

Children can explore topics such as local history, science, storytelling and even basic coding concepts like binary counting. These activities encourage creativity, teamwork and problem-solving, transforming the playground into a space for discovery, learning and imaginative play.

🔴Traditional play tower structure

We are proposing two types of the traditional play tower structure:

  • Play tower type 1 -The Forsyth

A dynamic combination play unit centred around a striking hexagonal deck that forms a fort-like hub for adventure. From this central lookout, a variety of engaging play elements branch outward, inviting children to climb, explore, and move in every direction. The design encourages imagination and active play, with multiple pathways and activities connecting back to the central “fort,” creating a vibrant play experience where discovery happens at every turn.

  • Play tower type 2 - The Seafarer

Set sail on an imaginative adventure with this boat-themed combination play unit. Children can make their way along a jetty-style walkway before crossing the access bridge to reach the boat deck, where the journey truly begins. The design invites young explorers to step into the role of captain or crew, sparking creative play as they navigate their own make-believe voyage. With multiple entry points and engaging features, this nautical-inspired play space encourages climbing, exploring and storytelling, turning every visit into a fun-filled maritime adventure.
