The Parry Park Playspace project has been developed in response to the Parry Park Masterplan 2018, which aims to provide the community with an improved open space and recreation resource. This includes family-friendly spaces with seats, tables and picnic shelters, and a range of water and dry play experiences.

Community engagement on the playground concept design was conducted between 27 April 2020 and 13 May 2020, receiving a high level of interest from the community. Due to the Covid lockdown, engagement for this project moved online to the Have Your Say website and social media. This created numerous ways for the community to provide input and feedback. Council also directly reached out to local schools, day-care centres, community groups and residents. During the exhibition period:

• The Have Your Say platform was viewed by 2,985 people and the social media post was viewed by 3,159 people;
• There were 52 submissions received on the Have Your Say platform. Of these submissions, the majority supported the design with some respondents believing Council should provide more additional facilities; and
• The Spend Your Points page provided input into the playground design with voting for play equipment choices.

The key themes emerging from the submissions were:

• The majority of respondents were positive about the concept design and excited to see the project develop;
• Many respondents requested additional supporting infrastructure surrounding the site such as access walkways, fences, shelters, picnic areas, youth play items, exercise activities and installation of flora that invites native fauna; and
• Many of the addition requests incorporated in other projects in the surrounding area or developing from the Parry Park Masterplan.

Council would like to acknowledge the detailed contributions received and thank the community for their support and engagement with this project.

Council has now finalised the design of the Playspace based on this feedback and is currently commencing the construction stage of the project. Delivery is proposed for Summer 2022.
