FAQ
- Staffing, hours and safety
- Council will staff the site in peak periods
- Water play will be active in summer until 6pm.
- Security lighting will be limited.
- Speakers will be for management announcements only.
- What is a splash park?
The design for this play space features several different types of play:
- Splash play: wet play with exciting equipment such as sprinklers and drenching buckets, similar to those at Birrong Splash Park. There will be ‘zero depth’ of water, which means there is no swimming or danger of drowning.
- Water play: moving water through small channels that offer less energetic, but intellectually stimulating play.
- Dry and nature play areas: play areas without water
- Why here?
Greenacre and surrounding suburbs have fewer playgrounds and open spaces than many other areas of CBCity. This splash park will complement the Roberts Park playing fields and enhance this underutilised corner of Roberts Park.
- How will this affect local schools?
There aren’t many kids who can say they have a splash park next to their school. This project will be a valuable asset for local students to enjoy after school and on the weekend, with benefits to health and wellbeing. We are actively discussing the project with Greenacre Public School and will be speaking with other local schools as well.
- Why not replace Greenacre Leisure and Aquatic Centre?
This splash park offers a different service to a pool and does not replace Greenacre Leisure and Aquatic Centre, which was closed as the structure had failed and would have required significant investment to reopen it again. Local aquatic centres such as at Roselands, Birrong and Olympic Park offer learn to swim services for the local community. The splash park will offer a unique, free and sustainable service of benefit to CBCity’s central area.
- How is water use managed in a facility like this?
The play features are designed to recapture as much water as possible, then treat it and recycle it a number of times, making it safe for people to use and reducing water usage overall.
